Book Details

Great Beautiful Black Women project was sponsored by Johnson Products Company, a hair care and beauty company in Chicago Illinois founded by Mr and Mrs. George Johnson. The project commemorated the 25th anniversary of company. Mr. Johnson commissioned artist, Paul Collins, to do portraits of great beautiful black women. The women were selected by a blue ribbon committee. The portraits traveled the country, appearing in major cultural institutions and a booklet was written with biographies on the women. Hermene Hartman was the coordinator of the project.Two books were done, one with poems and the other with biographies. The booklet was distributed in schools to note the achievements of the great women.This new release is a combination of the two booklets done in 1978 to commemorate the Great Beautiful Black Women Project.

Author Description

Before publishing I was in academics. I started as an intern at City Colleges of Chicago to become a full professor in Social Sciences. I was a administrator for the second largest community college in America. I was Vice Chancellor of External Affairs and Communications, which was handling the marketing and communications of 8 different colleges. I was at a cross roads in my career endeavors to become a President or Executive of a college or a media person. I choose to pursue a media career.

I enjoy jazz, public speaking sharing my insights on business, politics, race and women issues. I enjoy being a guest on television program to discuss relevant issues of the time. I like working on big ideas. I like innovation and creativity. I like developing people.
